“Against stupidity the very
gods themselves
contend in vain.”
friedrich von schiller
Well here we are with my old buddy Fried Rich once more.
Ever feel like Simon in a world of…
Ah, hold up.
The worst part about sounding crotchety is the sudden realization that you have a perfect right to BE crotchety.
In the course of things, what prompted all of this will never really be important.
What’s important is I think I’ve hit that point in life where there’s a REASON that things that annoy me annoy me.
Because as you get older, you see…
Young whipperschnappers!
Ha! You suddenly sound like the people you used to make fun of!
You suddenly LOOK like the people you used to make fun of.
You begin to think Judge Judy is the most amazing person walking around.
EVERYWHERE you turn you see people acting and being stupid, and when you tell others, you just sound crotchety! Because when you were younger, you could do the same things and everyone would rally behind you. But when you get a wee bit older, you look and sound crotchety.
Maybe I’ve finally reached my stride.
Even when I was young I was pretty crotchety, but when you’re YOUNG and crotchety, you look slick, smart as a whip, the defender of the meek, and the terrified.
And it works. People hate you at times, but when you kick ass and make things happen, you return a conquering hero. The end, as they say, justifies.
When you are older and crotchety you just look like a madman, Donald Duck sans meds.
It’s a bit why the older get wiser. They have to use different techniques, such as wisdom and spirituality or look like public ogres.
Because when you see the same sorts of idiotic things going on that you saw when you were younger, you just look mean and crotchety instead of tough and in command.
So you wind up shrugging, rolling your eyes, and breaking into a twinkling smile, because you suddenly realize that Friedrich Von Schiller’s quote has slid into home safely. You look up and the stadium lights blind you, but fear not.
It’s a standing ovation.
You win.
But you were kind about your wisdom, and about the lessons learned.
Life, as they say, is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.
That’s Horace Walpole. Let’s give credit where credit is due.
Anyway, some of y’all might see signs of future crotchetyism creeping into your daily schtick.
It’s called getting older.
Played wrong, it could hurl you into the abyss of certain crotchety madness.
Played sweetly, it could become your symphony, and in the end, your legacy.
Live life, love life.
Peace.
