The Daily News
What what???
It’s Thursday yo.
My feeling about Thursdays is that no matter what, Thursdays are safe as days of the week.
I say this as a pseudo-intellectual.
We must save Thursdays as days of the week.
Thursdays are underratted.
Just trust that.
Moving on, Part the First: Even though I’m a Giants’ fan, I also like to support the A’s. I’d never wear one of those split caps, because I was born into a Giants’ family, worked for the Giants, and have a hideous disdain for the Dodgers.
Yesterday’s A’s game upset myself and my buddy Cris Kuch, who is also a huge Giants’ fan. We were sitting at a faculty meeting when she turned her cell at me with the A’s score.
What we didn’t know was the line drive that pitcher Brandon McCarthy took to the head.
Scary stuff. Even if it had been a Dodger, it really brings puts a lot of it into some sort of perspective.
The news reports said that McCarthy is okay, so all we could do is keep him and his family in our thoughts.
Scary moment to be sure.
Moving on, Part Two: I’m going to stay on the A’s train for a moment. Yesterday I went out to lunch when a bus pulled in front of me. It was a 70, for the record, which has the Eastridge gig. Flashing on it’s rear mini-marquee was a message that said, “Go Giants.” At first I threw my fist into the air, but then I thought about A’s fans, and their quest to move the A’s to San Jose, and I thought, “That’s political.”
I’m very astute.
It took a bit out of me, because I thought about the other guys.
So I have a lot of empathy for A’s fans this morning.
For the record, the A’s have almost caught the Yankees in wins and losses this season.
I don’t gamble, but I would be interested in knowing the odds on a Giants/A’s World Series. I don’t think it’s out of the question.
I might even put a dollar down if the odds are astronomical.
Makes me smile just thinking about it.
Moving on, Part the Thoid: I have barked about my own editing a few times over the years, yet I find horrific errors in the DN’s each time I go to re-edit after posting.
This morning I found this gem: 43 Everything is a bit early this year. The other day I went to a Starbucks somewhere or other day and saw a Spirit store.
How on Earth did the word “day” appear after the words “somewhere or other?”
I must say in my own defense that my laptop jumps letters. I have been told that Windows Vista sometimes jumps letters.
I don’t know about entire words, but when I’m tacking away furiously to hit these googy deadlines, two or three letters at a time can jump anywhere on the page.
It does that in emails too.
I always get people saying to me, “Get an Apple.”

It’s been my experience that all computers have glitches, even Apples.
When I typed in item 30, it came out like this: hav
e glitches, even Apples.
God as joker.
I swear to you.
Moving on, Part Four: At yesterday’s union meeting, we met the new super. He has a cool name, Chris Funk.
My first impression was that I like the guy. He has taught for over twenty years and is the son of a drama teacher.
He has this funky cockiness mixed with what looks like a genuine concern for teachers.
I always enjoy sons and daughters of teachers. They tend to make good teachers, because they already know things that a lot of other new teachers don’t know.
And they still want to be teachers!
Anyway, he told us that he is going to get some sort of Apple pro-something laptops for all union members, and that they will be switched out every four years.
He pointed to a chartreuse Apple that one of the big-wigs in the union was using.
I think it was chartreuse.
I’m a guy.
We don’t know pastels.
I associate Apple computers with white.
I accidentally said to a colleague, “I’m a white guy.”
No. HONESTLY. It was unintended.
It was one of those statements that is unintended, but that you discover by around the second-to-the-last word.
So I said it and felt like a jackass two seconds later.
Moving on, Part the Fifth: Well, I guess I am a white guy.
Not much I could do about that.
I wear shorts on freezing days, and am cocky as hell.
I also know right when to bounce.
I think now would be a good time.
So good luck Giants; good luck A’s, good luck Brandon.
Catch you all on the reebz.
Peace.
