    The Daily News

So...Barbara Billingsley walks into a bar...

   The inimitable June Cleaver.

    America's REAL Sweetheart.

    Sooooo sad...

I don't know about you, but I'm a little worried about the Beaver.

    The ulitmate Mom.

She based her character on my own Mom, btw.

     Whew.

Moving on, Part the First: Did anyone else just LOVE yesterday's weather?

   I loved the rain.

I went out to my backyard, and checked to make sure all my flowers and plants were enjoying things. They smiled, like little Disney cartoons. My head had Bach playing. Everything looked lush and colorful. Fantasia in Autumn.

   It was so refreshing!

And the patio I built stood strong; glad that I had spent all summer laying it out. And there are STILL cool, wet, and refreshed Beatles in my garden!

Moving on, Part the Second:  Did I mention the Giants yet?

It will always arrive a bit late, since I write the DN prior to the games.

In a way, it's nice, because I could enjoy things like the rain, the garden, and the plants.

It rained. It will probably rain again tonight.

There are times when I look up at the rain and feel it is somehow anointing the Fall season.

   Ahhh, nice.

   So...

Maybe I won't mention the Giants.

They got out-pitched. The bullpen anyway.

I'll take a split in Philly. It really was flat bats and a sloppy play.

   Happens.

You didn't REALLY think they were going to win this whole thing in four games now, did you?

Frankly, I didn't mind at all. I just loved most everything about yesterday.

The Niners beat the Raiders, but not until both teams got tired of trying to beat themselves.

Being a lifelong Niner fan, I guess I enjoyed it. But that team still needs some major changes for its fans. I watched Al Davis and company beat up their fans for the past few years to the point that I actually felt sorry for them.

That's what the Niner ownership has done this year. Alex Smith is still a small-time, overpaid, overrated quarterback. Singletary remains arguably the worst coach in franchise history. And as a lifelong fan, I am still frustrated with all of their idiocy.

I liked winning, I imagine. But a simple look at the Giants organization will show the difference between a team that is trending up, and a team that is basically a joke.

Ah, I don't want to talk sports anymore.

The Giants miracle season has dominated half my life, and teaching the other half the past seven months. Did I say seven? Yup. Don't stop believing.

This past weekend I was able to enjoy with family. Caitlin came home, and we had laugh after laugh, as always. They all took off to the Half Moon Bay pumpkin fest, while I sat in the garden grading papers, watching an old Sinatra flick called Suddenly on my laptop.

We all met up on Saturday at my Dad's to watch the Giants whoop the Phillies. I haven't seen Dad in a while, so it was awesome! He's looking pretty good too!

And then yesterday Nicole and I took out this eight-foot school table and co-lesson planned out our weeks. We sat side-by-side planning, just like a couple of colleagues.

So this week looks pretty organized and nice. I got a LOT of stuff done.

For those out there still doing the college thing, it was like turning the corner on a couple of midterms. I still have more midterms and finals to face, but for the first time all year, I feel I have a little breathing room.

No night gigs, no supervision, and even a Monday without baseball!

Yesterday's lovely rains splashed through my entire life, and brought a sort of peace and coolness to a long, hot, muggy season.

   Everything seems clear and bright.

I'm really looking forward to this entire week. Colors are vivid, the air is fresh and cool, and I'm ready.

   Have a grand Monday, everybody.

   Fly low.

   Peace.
