  It's  Frideeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!

  And I'm runnin' late.

Not a bad thing, not a bad thing.

I conked out last night at 9 p.m. and slept 'til 6:30, so not only was there no insomnia, but I'm WAY rested for once in my life.

That's what happens when you lecture for five periods and have a couple of glasses of good wine while watching the Niners fifth squad running around looking stupid.

I now have half-season tix I'm sharing with my sister and I now understand why my Dad has always hated pre-season football.

   Lousy, boring game.

Well, that' also explains a lot about my early sleep last night.  I famously don't do Thursdays very well, and last night was a prime example.

Ah, vell. <sudden change of thought> Hey, cool coincidence!  Remember how yesterday I had a sort of Whack-a-Mole thing going on? Yesterday afternoon I was listening to KNBR and Barbieri mentioned Whack-a-Mole! I love stuff like that. I also talked coincidences a bit, and how they happen with ridiculous frequency to me. Exhibit A.

Moving on, Part the First: Yesterday I went to Save-Mart for some several items, and I was struck by the fact that  it had this sign on a door facing the parking lot:

Is it just me? Or shouldn't that sign be seen from inside the store?

Well, with all due respect, if we rated stores for stupidity, Save-Mart just might win the prize for stupidest anyway.

Moving on, Part the Second:  Speaking of stupidest, the one thing I've noticed about the Niners these days and the Niners of Yore is that talent-wise, the team now is similar to the eighties teams. The MAJOR difference is intelligence. This Niners' team is filled with morons and simpletons, and LOTS of raw talent. But the intelligence factor just isn't there. The Ronnie Lott's, Roger Craigs, Jerry Rices, and Joe Montanas just aren't anywhere to be seen. Instead we have troglodytes hitting each other in the head and shouting at one another.

Yeesh. That's pretty much my observation of nearly all things twenty-first century.

There has been a WHOLE bunch of stupidity unleashed on the world in the past twenty years. While we weren't looking, the world turned ridiculously stupid.

It used to amuse me; now I just sort of roll my eyes.

I won't rant. Just an observation. That sign facing me in the parking lot was pretty funny. Hey, door. I KNOW you're not an exit. If anything, you would be an entrance...

If there's any hope at all, I'm finding that students seem to be getting smarter. It isn't based on anything empirical, like tests or anything, but they seem to sort of "get it" these days. It's reasonably enjoyable. I've seen some brilliant writing as well. Some kids write WAY better than this Old Brown Shoe.

So yeah, there's a bit of hope.

So I'm up against the clock this fine day. I overslept, but feel pretty feisty.

   And it's FRIDEEEEEEEEEE!!!! That's always a treat!

We also get Monday off for Labor Day. Say what you will, but bless the unions. I'm pretty tired of all the propaganda against unions. That's the Irish in me. People are too trusting that management will give them a fair shake all the time. Not so, never has been the case, and never will be. So I find Labor Day a pretty sacred thing. The brainwashing taking place all over the place is shameless. Rupert Murdoch and Co. have told everyone and his brother to think like he does, and it is clearly working.

Not on this guy. And it shouldn't on anyone with a half a brain.

   But I won't rant.

Haha, only because there's no time today.

So I'll climb down off my soapbox and wish you all a beautiful day, and a wonderful weekend.

    See you all on Tuesday.

     Have a good one.

     Peace.
