The Daily News1 I just LOVED yesterday.
2 Couldn't really tellya why. ; ) <-----------sideways winky guy indicating that I actually CAN.
3 Just counting blessings of late.
4 Sometimes, dude, you just have to step back and realize when a good thing happens.
5 Paul Simon has a song called Something So Right the theme of which is how when things go wrong, we're the first to admit it, but when something goes right, we're the last one's to know it.
6 I always thought it was a cool little concept.
7 We human beings are sometimes the complainingest creatures.
8 Is that a word, "complainingest"?
9 It is now.
10 Anyway, here's a You Tube of Paul Simon singing Something So Right back-in-the-day:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQqAKAAkufE11 What makes Rhymin' Simon unique is his poetry. Here are the lyrics to Something So Right, if you're interested:
You've got the cool water
When the fever runs high
You've got the look of lovelight in your eyes
And I was in crazy motion
'til you calmed me down
It took a little time
But you calmed me down
When something goes wrong
I'm the first to admit it
I'm the first to admit it
And the last one to know
when something goes right
Well it's likely to lose me, mm
It's apt to confuse me
It's such an unusual sight
Oh, I can't, I can't get used to something so right
Something so right
They've got a wall in China
It's a thousand miles long
To keep out the foreigners they made it strong
And I've got a wall around me
That you can't even see
It took a little time
To get next to me
When something goes wrong
I'm the first to admit it
I'm the first to admit it
And the last one to know
when something goes right
Well it's likely to lose me, mm
It's apt to confuse me
because it's such an unusual sight
Oh, I swear, I can't get used to something so right
Something so right
Some people never say the words "I love you"
It's not their style
to be so bold
Some people never say those words "I love you"
But like a child they're longing to be told, mm
When something goes wrong
I'm the first to admit it
I'm the first to admit it
And the last one to know
when something goes right
Well it's likely to lose me, mm
It's apt to confuse me
because it's such an unusual sight
I swear, I can't, I can't get used to something so right
Something so right
hmmmmm, ooohhhhh,
Something so right

12 Just a nice song. Nothing spectacular, but SUCH a fun concept. I teach the poetry of Paul Simon in my poetry unit. We do five songs: America, Cloudy, The Sound of Silence, Scarborough Fair, and The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy). Very fun unit, every bit as engaging as the JFK stuff.
13 I'm hoping that the cut/paste of this won't turn the fonts all tiny on today's DN.
14 I sort of have to train Mozilla to behave each time I use it to work the DN. It always wants to go to Times/New Roman tiny, and it drives me crazuh.
15 AnywayZ, good things have been happening, good things, good times.
16 That hasn't happened to me in quite some time, so it sure feels nice. It's also reassuring to know that life moves through cycles.
17 Like this morning, for example. I've been going to bed WAY earlier than I have the past few years. As a result, I awaken earlier, and get the DN done in the morning, way early. I find that I rid myself of my incessant insomnia that way.
18 This morning I got up extra early because I wrote virtually nothing last night. I woke up at 4:30, just to have plenty of time to get the DN off, and be wide awake by the time I hit the classroom.
9 <obnoxious basketball buzzer>
10 When I went to the coffee can to make coffee, it was virtually empty. So the time I saved backfired. I was going to write about how nice things were, and the first thing I had to do was to put on a pair of shorts, hop in the TOOOOOONDRA, and try to find some decent coffee at like 4:45 in the morning.
11 I remembered that the Starbuck's on Calaveras opens at 5 a.m. How did I know that? Both daughters used to work there. They both told me that customers who would show up at the door at exactly five a.m. were obnoxious.
12 Having worked with the public, I know that opening a store is always nice when nobody is out there waiting. It's almost like you need a little chill time before dealing with people. I sort of like having a quiet moment before school too. It's just human nature.
13 Well, I motored over to the Starbuck's, and arrived at exactly 4:59. I REALLY didn't want to "vulture", but I also wanted to get my coffee and get back home so I'd have enough time to get the DN off.
14 So at EXACTLY five a.m. I went to the door just to double check that they opened at five. A lady instantly looked at me, looked at her watch, and unlocked the door.
15 My first words were, "I'm SO sorry. I NEVER do this, but I woke up this morning early and saw that I had no coffee." She smiled and said quite pleasantly, "That's a mortal sin!" They all smiled and were really nice. I told them that my daughters used to work there, and all the rest. I got out fast, thanking them as I rolled out.
16 So my entire idea of getting up early completely backfired. The irony is that my theme for the morning was going to be how everything has been going so right lately, and I'm beginning to accept that good things happen.
17 Well, I guess I somehow got that all in. I'm just running out of time, and I have to worry about my lesson plans, which I actually put together a week ago.
18 See? Something so right.
19 Moving on, Part the Second: Yesterday was 9/1/10. On the way to school, I saw a truck with the number 1009 on it, and some guy wearing a shirt with a number 9 on it. I also wrote on my Facebook "Best Day EVER!!!" last night, because, well, it was.
20 Right after I wrote that, I saw that someone else had put those words on their "status".
21 If you don't know, the numbers one and nine have always been quite mystical in my life, often coinciding with tremendous coincidences. It happens so often now that I just figure it's sort of similar to being a psychic.
22 For the record, no really amazing coincidences occurred yesterday. Just a couple of ones and nines, and that minor coincidence with my "status". Other than that, it was really pretty tame compared to things that happened last year.
23 I'm almost afraid to get into all that stuff this year, because I had a rash of bad things happen last year when I began my Halloween unit. I tried going a bit beyond all the coincidences, and things really turned strange.
24 Plus I have such good "chi" right now, lol!
25 LOL. WTH? When did we turn into an abbreviated society?
26 Moving on, Part the Third: Something is trying to attack my computer, but Trend keeps putting up an heroic shield. As soon as I started talking about all the good things happening, this warning keeps appearing, and I have to keep hitting the word "Block". It's sort of like playing game of Whack-a-Mole. I keep shifting over and clobbering whatever is trying to get me.

27 Moving on, Part the Fourth: I just now took my first sip of coffee. I recall the character Uncle Arvide in Guys and Dolls commenting about how coffee is so good, it should be a sin. The words "coffee" and "sin" go are swimmingly congruent, don't you think?
28 Moving on, Part the Fifth: Did anyone see the last two Giants' games? Last night could possibly have been the best game of the season. Timmy Lincecum, who a week ago I suggested should be sent down, came back and pitched his heart out, beating one of the best pitchers in baseball. He also laid down a bunt that worked.
29 Plus the Giants brought up this new kid named Darren Ford, who allegedly has jets for feet. The reports coming in last night said that he arrived at the stadium in the second inning, and was sent in as a pinch runner last night. Turns out he flew home from second and scored the winning run on a wild pitch, all for Timmeh and the Giants!

30 Hilarious, and what a win! We now are hunting down the San Diego Padres with an almost monstrously hungry team, and one that seems to be working on all cylinders. I LOVED last night's game, which might have had something to do with my "status".
31 Status.
32 Yeesh.
33 This morning on KNBR's Murph and Mac show, they talked about some story that Darren Ford had a little run-in with the law last year. He evidently reported that his house had been broken into, when in fact it hadn't. He also has a tat on his neck.
34 My kinda cat.
35 Welp, I'm getting sorta tired of whacking that mole every four seconds, so I think I'm going to get showered and dressed and looking purty.
36 Hope you guys have the best day ever.
37 Find it in your heart.
38 Meanwhile...
39 Peace.
