    a HAIR revival
    The Daily News

1  You have days, you know, that simply rock.

2   That was today, or yesterday if you read this tomorrow.

    3   Mad Hatter.

4   I’m likin’ it more and more.

5   That’s twice this year, Jeff Love, that you’ve inspired me.

6   A teacher who can teach a teacher. Gotta love it.

7   Anyway, I’m still buzzing from today, or yesterday if you read this tomorrow.

8   We had Back to School Night, and for the first time since I first started teaching, I had a full house every single period. People hung off the rafters of The Cathedral, my affectionate nickname for my beautiful classroom.

9   Reminded me of opening night for Hair “back-in-the day”. I distinctly remember someone coming in under the clock and saying, “Hey Mr. H…do we have any more tickets?”

10  That meant we had a sellout, which happened VERY few times, especially on a Thursday night.

11  I said, “Just take the money and stamp their hands. Get some folding chairs in the aisles, and keep sellin’!”

12  We had heard an very real rumor that the cast was going to be naked at the end of the first act, and did NOTHING to deny that rumor, as it IS in the script.

13  The song was “Where do I Go?”, a beautiful song about wondering what you want to do with your life once you’ve reached nineteen or twenty.

14  Of course, we had no intention of having a naked cast, but what a rumor!

15   The entire town showed up that night, and I remember grabbing a follow spot, which as the show started, caved in on me, knocking my headphones crooked. I was so out of my game that I started yelling, “The spot is on me! Helllllp meeeee…my headphones are…” and I realized that we had WAY more people show up than any company ever dreamed could arrive.

16  I quickly regained focus, righted the spot, and the show blew everyone of us away.

17  Nobody got naked, thank goodness, but the Theatre that night rocked beyond all measure.

18   So the analogy to tonight, or last night, or whatever is solid. I had WAY more parents show up than I ever have, and something was happening at the Chill.

19  I was off my game at first, but rebounded and realized that this was one of my greatest teaching moments.

20  I’ve worked my ass off all year, and suddenly, there are people here.

21  Oh, yeah, I gave some token extra credit points if parents came but in my entire history of teaching, I NEVER had this many.

22   I couldn’t write it off simply to “great students<great parents” although that was clearly part of it.

    23   It was more.

24   And when I got home, I buzzed like I haven’t in years.

25   Somethin’s happenin’ at the Chill.

26   And I’m right in the thick of it.

27   Wish me luck, but it’s a whole lotta good.

28   I’m still buzzing from the whole thing.

29   I think it was amazing, and I still haven’t figured it all out.

30   But I loved it, and I’m gonna ride it and love all of it, for what it’s worth.

    31   Life’s AMAZING right now!!!!

    32   Aight then, peace yo!

33   Can’t wait for tomorrow, or today if it’s already tomorrow!

34    Luv y’all and as I said yesterday, or the day before yesterday, I miss y’all.

    35    <sigh>!

    36    Live life, love life.

    37    Peace.

    a cool guy 1

Follow the windsong, follow the thunder, follow the neon in young lovers’ eyes!
down to the gutter, up to the glitter,
into the city where the Truth lies…

Where do I go? follow the children
Where do I go, follow their smiles.

    Where will they lead me?

And will I ever discover why I live an die?
