The Daily News
Hey, are you about as broke as I?
Lol, all righty.
Like, I woke up the other morning and all was normal, and then I went to my calculator to figure out how much I had spent the previous day.
Like most people, I get somewhat reckless when it comes to money. It isn't that I'm disinterested; I just think holistically until I pull up next to my actual checkbook.
I always thought it was better, and I also would subtract up; that is, I would spend $17.29 and dedcuct $20. If life is good, I'd go back and even it out with a nice neat crease. If not, I'd at least usually have a pretty good idea of where I was and fix it the second it rains.
Once in a while, however, that technique fails, which happened this month.
I'm not sure as to when, but I turned out broke when I took the time out yesterday to balance things and take care of "business".
Ah, vell.
Every beancounter out there will laugh, but really, it rarely catches up to me because it always has worked in the past.
Essentially, it makes no difference if I'm keeping dotline on my books or correcting things within a day or two. Either way, one thing always becomes obvious to me: the world is swiftly moving beyond my pocketbook.
It's funny because I used the term "pocketbook" to students recently and they had no idea as to what I was saying.
That has happened more and more as years go by.
I actually went into the word "dude" with students the other day.
It was almost scary.
Many students had no idea that a "dude" was and East Coast gentleman who suddenly found himself in a West Coast bar.
Well, something like that.
I had guys in my class who had no idea that a "dude" was even a person!
They just thought it was something you stuck randomly in a sentence, the same as you would the word "like", or even "bitch".
I'm fast becoming a victim of the distortion of the language. It won't be long before I have no idea what the heck kids are saying any longer.
The REALLY scary thing is that neither will the readers of the DN!
I'll keep you posted folks, but is sure ain't easy.
Meanwhile, you just have to let it go.
Seriously. Words of wisdom for 2009.
Just let it go.
You'll live a long, prosperous life if you smile and make that a part of your thang.
Let it go.
So liberating.
I think that's it for today. And the fighter still remains. Learn it.
Enjoy everything you can possibly enjoy today.
Peace.
