The sportsbooks are seeing more action on American Idol in one week than they do on a year's worth of a hockey season.

It didn't take me too long to figure out why American Idol and Dancing With the Stars keep showing moments of weirdness. Arm injuries, people passing out, long-shots winning. Hmmmmmm....
My latest conspiracy theory. I watched David Cook completely lose. And after he lost, he cried, but it didn't look like it was the song that was making him do it.
For the past few weeks I've watched David Cook and wondered something blatantly obvious: How has that guy never been a front guy for a band? Any time I see anything that takes America by storm, I assume it's controlled. Can't help it. It's my CIA training.
My feeling about most of those shows is that they just get these guys right out of central casting, and that nearly everything we see is a well-tailored sham.
I'm thoroughly convinced that most of those reality shows are completely faked. It wouldn't be the first time in television history that something like that could take place.
Have you ever SEEN a show that also gets free advertising on every search engine and radio station in the world? Or that has stories that are contrived, and that change? How do they get so much "free" coverage on the net, and on radio stations all owned by the same companies?
There's an entire gambling enterprise revolving around these shows, which are controlled and packaged by corporate sponsors. Without looking I'm going to take an educated guess, and I'm guessing this is all controlled by Fox, and Clear Com, and ultimately, the desk of Rupert Murdoch. No statistics, just a hunch. I'll look into it when I actually care, but this stuff has entered the seedy world of gambling, and like sports, I'm thinking there's a whole bunch of opportunities to throw games.
Am I making this up?
Here ya go. Take a quick scroll down this page. It's pretty revealing.
American Idol Preview: Cook Is Gambling Favorite Over Archuleta
When American Idol started this year, many fans were wondering if the show could continue to pop out top amateur performers. The show not only did that, but also has produced one of the better finale showdowns.
David Cook and David Archuleta have both been brilliant at times this season. They both have created a large fan following from different ends of the social spectrum, and are both worthy of winning the title.
The sports books say that Cook has the better chance of winning. He is listed as the gambling favorite in most sports books, and is predicted to be the winner in gambling arenas.
Archuleta is by no means a long shot. His odds are fairly strong for a second choice. The sports books are basically saying that while Cook is the favorite, it would surprise nobody if Archuleta won.
Of course, it will ultimately be the performances Tuesday night that will determine the winner. With both contestants so evenly matched and evenly loved by voters, one slip up could cost Cook or Archuleta a shot at being the American Idol winner this season.
Show time is set for 8:00 Tuesday night on FOX.

Hmmm. Most odds were on Cook.
Did he take a dive? I definitely smell a rat. His songs were clearly done with less enthusiasm as Simon kept talking in boxing analogies.
I won't be the only guy asking. Cook's tears didn't look at all to me like tears of a musician lost in his song. They looked like tears of an entirely different sort.
And there are news leaks almost every week about scripted shows, and backstage dads being tossed out, but stories changing.
Here's an old webpage if you don't believe me. Remember Taylor Hicks? Remember his early appearances on the show? That guy was a longshot if ever I saw one. Here, have a look:

Staggering, no? If you bet early on a long shot, and you have prior knowledge of the end result, then you could literally make a fortune.
I've been watching this stuff developing for a while now, wondering why MSN, AOL, and and the news shows, talk radio, sports talk ALL jabber incessantly about these shows.
Why so much free advertising?
I already have suspected many sporting events are decided on a bad toss, or by a bad call.
Gaming. 1919 World Series. Phantom punches in boxing. Rose.
It's all just theory mind you, but I just googled gambling and Am Idol last night and couldn't believe the extent of the betting people could put on these shows, the results of which could be controlled by mob sorts.
In general, you do attract that element when there is gambling.
It's an interesting theory, that's for sure.
People might just look at me and figure I'm way off base.
Well, I had an entirely different DN written, but once I saw Cook totally choke by holding back on what could only be described as a heavyweight bout, and THEN cry a different sort of tear, I became suspicious.
When I saw that he was a clear odds-on favorite to win, I had to wonder.
No matter what else, I've watched a few strange events in the past couple of months.
Hillary announcing she was shot at, and then saying, "M'bad, I made a mistake."
A television show that exposed magicians secrets, one that showed a guy levitating and amazed spectators, but showing that he was attached to a crane, and the faces of the spectators was just a different moment. They lifted him later and edited it.
The guy on The Bachelor who said good-bye to one girl, and when the other girl was expecting him to ask her to marry him, had a change of heart and decided he didn't want her either, which spawned another show!
Yeesh. It's all a thought mind you, but I've been quite on the money in this sort of stuff before (JFK, Bonds/Sports steroid scandal, the CIA running drugs during Iran/Contra, etc. to name but a few) and I get the same feeling on all of this stuff.
It's just SO blatant it's almost unbelieveable.
So in keeping with my consistent distrust of anything amazingly popular, I'm going to keep a bit of an eye on the longshots.
Take none of this seriously or you'll get mad at me. Just smile and realize it's all just thoughts that nobody would ever want to think about (OOH!) but that we all will anyway.
In this case, it's sort of like when I first read the Warren Report and saw that 90 seconds after he allegedly shot JFK from the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository, Lee Harvey Oswald was seen by a manager and a police officer chilling in the second floor break room sipping a Coke, with no sign of flush or anything resembling being out of breath.
I remember looking up like that kid in Never Ending Story and thinking, "Huh?"
It's not as scandalous, but last night's Idol did that.
Something just didn't look right.
Sounds like a fun one.
I'll keep you posted, and pissed off.
But it'll be a fun one to hunt down. And it SURE is interesting...
