The Importance of Being Earnest rocked the house last night. It's AMAZING to me that something THAT incredibly classy and good is going on right here at YB!!! Fred Crowe, a theatre reviewer for the Milpitas Post, suggested to me that the Pigeon Players are the real deal. I quite agreed, telling him, "Can you IMAGINE these guys WITH funding and audiences, and a facility like the Rep?"

I remember the San Jose Rep a few years before they moved to their new facility, and let me tell you: they had NOTHING on the Pigeon Players. The Players have grown, matured, and are now putting up very close to professional-quality shows. And the shows are FREE, tonight and tomorrow night at 8, and Sunday at 3. I hope people at this school understand what an important gift this very generous group is to our community. Mr. Crowe stated that it is a feather in our cap that our school recognizes the art and talent of this young and amazing theatre company.

I may be wasting my breath here, but you ain't going to get this quality of theatre anywhere from Story Road to Cal Poly. If someone would kindly name a place in between those two spots, I'm all for giving them recognition. The Pigeon Players have arrived, and have, in my eyes, as well as in the eyes of Mr. Crowe, moved a world class theatrical company into the YB Theatre.

As always, however, YB seems not to get it, which is a shame. It's almost embarrassing that we have people from Shady Shakespeare, Big Lil's downtown, a dancer from the Moulin Rouge, graduates from SJSU, local filmmakers from Cinequest, and that it's the best kept secret around.

  Shame on you, YB!

So pencil in a two-hour slot this weekend, dress up, put your nose a bit in the air, and enjoy The Importance of Being Earnest in the YB Theatre. Come, listen, stay, and enjoy the tremendous acting, and the amazingly deft directing hand of Angie Higgins. It's really a joy to watch this show. I'm VERY proud of the Company, and honored to be a part of it.

Prom bids are selling fast, so get in and get your bid for this year's Senior Ball. Sorry we had nobody out there yesterday; I had to bark at the committee about that one. But there should be a table set up by Monday, right at the bottom of the steps. This is going to be a wonderful evening, so get out there, grab some friends, and make a night of it!!

What else?  Ah, I'm a pretty disappointed that the 49ers didn't pick up Jerry Rice. It would have been a wonderful tribute to number 80 to retire as a Niner, and frankly, their corps (yeah, it SHOULD rhyme with corpse!) could use a guy of his history and stature.

Well, I guess it's all about pearls before swine sometimes, isnt it?

It's sometimes an amazing thing to watch the dyslexia that occurs when people evidently quite slow of study mistake the sublime for the ridiculous, and so on.

With that, I shall take the high road out of this absurdity today by simply wishing one and all better thought, and a goodly, sunny afternoon.

After two-hour classes going on all week, I should think we have all become a tad smarter.

  Peace.
