Today’s Mom’s birthday.
Happy Birthday, Mom. You’re the best!
You taught me not to spell “you’re” “your” when you mean “you are”.
You taught me to think twice before saying things.
You taught me that double-negatives reverse things.
You taught me that most people are fundamentally good, and to have patience with the incredibly stupid.
You taught me always to consider the feelings of others.
You taught me always to think of seeng the world from others’ perspectives.
You taught me always to smile at absurdities, that the world, as Horace Walpole once put it, is a comedy to those who think, a tragedy to those who feel.
You taught me courtesy, and chivalry, and that it is okay to hold a door for someone, and to allow a lady to sit in the front seat.
You taught me that life is too short for hatred and grudges, and that mending fences makes gardens of friendships.
You taught me always to take the high road.
You taught me class.
And I spent the goodly part of my life ignoring many of those lessons, and I have been ver much the fool as a result, and very much of the time.
In the past few years, I’ve worked to make myself a better person by living closer to your wisdom.
Anyway, Happy Birthday, to one of the greatest people in my life.
I love you Mom.
Peace.
